Abstract
The selection of this paper from 1979 in the Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene highlights significant issues in relation to neglected tropical disease (NTD) programmes, specifically the Global Programme to Eliminate Lymphatic Filariasis (LF), and the wider concepts of eradication and elimination. Webber in other papers in the 1970s described the epidemiology of Wuchereria bancrofti filariasis in the Solomon Islands where W. bancrofti and P. falciparum malaria were co-endemic, both transmitted by Anopheles punctulatus complex mosquitoes
